All we’ve heard the last two years is about how Obama has a lock on the youth vote. It turns out, it was all true. This election cycle 68 college and university newspapers endorsed a presidential candidate and of those, 66 picked the Obamanator.
Among those 66 were the newspapers from Harvard, Cornell, Duke, the University of South Carolina, UT Austin and Amherst.
So who were those measly two to break away from the pack? The University of Mississippi’s Daily Mississippian and The Criterion at Mesa State College in Colorado were the only student newspapers who choose Johnny boy. They may be out on a limb, I guess I should commend them for sticking to their guns (those Republicans, they love their guns).
Professional newspaper endorsements were also skewed in Obama’s favor, but not nearly to the same degree. Obama has the support of 273 newspapers while McCain received 142 endorsements.
So, if the newspaper industry determined the election, it would be clear who the next president would be. But then again, print is dead so what do they know?
