Ole Miss Hates On McCain's Proposed Delay Of Debate, Obama Swoops In To Pick Up The Pieces

Ole Miss is seeing red and not the good, republican kind of red. They’re pissed that McCain wants to delay the debates and they’re not afraid to say it.

The school has been prepping for the debates for months now. The media has flooded Oxford and students have suffered through inconveniences. But it all seemed worthwhile for the presidential candidates to grace Oxford with a visit and for Ole Miss to be thrust into the spotlight.

The Daily Mississippian has all the outrage:

“It would be infuriating,” the University of Mississippi law student said. “I’ve been having to walk to class and go to class two hours early to get a parking spot and stuff like that. We’ve all made huge sacrifices for this. If there’s no payoff, it would be infuriating.”

Yes, major sacrifices have been made, if you can imagine it some even worse than walking to class. For instance, by now Ole Miss has invested nearly $5 million in the event.

So what’s the best course of action in this unfavorable situation? Simply pretend it’s not happening. That’s what the city of Oxford seems to be doing at least:

Oxford Mayor Richard Howorth said as far as he is concerned, the city is not making any changes and is preparing to host a full debate until there is an official decision made by the Commission on Presidential Debates.

Just in case the old guy still doesn’t show up, Obama has a contingency plan. He’ll just do the debate himself! The Huffington Post is reporting that Obama is not missing out on this opportunity to slam McCain in front of tens of millions of viewers engage with the American people:

In McCain's absence, the Senator is willing to make the scheduled debate a townhall meeting, a one-on-one interview with NewsHour's Jim Lehrer, or the combination of the two, the official said.

Obama would probably pass out free iPods if that’s what it took to keep his stranglehold on the youth vote.

Not that it’s necessary.

After these shenanigans, it wouldn’t be too surprising if the republican Mississippi switched on over to ObamaNation. Ole Miss students probably confuse McCain with Colonel Rebel anyway.

The 1992 Presidential Debates with Ross Perot were not dull. His warnings have now come true. Replace John McCain with Ron Paul. Add Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney. Barack Obama must earn his victory, not win by default. Posted 09/25/2008 2:21 PMReply

You're damn right Ross Perot predicted the future! My father told me back then that he was the only candidate telling the truth! That was 20 years ago, and I was only 8 year old! Posted 09/25/2008 3:11 PMReply
