Olympic Gymnast Nastia Liukin Lands Role on"Gossip Girl"

So what do you after winning five gold medals at the Olympics? Time for some steamy teen dramas. That’s right, ~~gymnastics hottie~~ (wait, how old is she? Oh, 19?) yeah, gymnastics hottie Nastia Liukin is set to have a guest role on an upcoming episode of Gossip Girl.

She was having lunch one day in LA, and the producers of Gossip Girl happened to be sitting next to her. They sent her a note saying congrats on the whole Olympics thing and to “keep watching Gossip Girl” (uh, a little weird no?). Next thing she knew they called her management and she has a spot on the show.

This should be much more legitimate than Shawn Johnson’s brief, bizarre spot on The Secret Life of an American Teenager, Nastia is actually not playing herself, instead having a new character invented for her to play on the show. No word on how much screen time she’ll get, or whether the role will span more than one episode. That probably hinges on a combination of ratings and fan mail, so get those e-mails drafted if you want to see if she starts a fling with Chuck or Nate.

Ughhh. I don't mind when people come on to play themselves, but when non-trained actors get actual roles, even if they are brief, it compromises the show for me. No, not everyone on TV is a good actor, but the acting on Gossip Girl is generally good and I'd like them to keep it that way. That show has enough ratings problems as it is.
