Oregon State Glad To Take Virginia's Lawbreaking QB

Oregon State doesn’t care if you’re a delinquent as long as you can play football.

Luckily for Peter Lalich, he can play football quite well. The former University of Virginia quarterback was the first true freshman in Virginia history to play in the last decade. The school’s website describes Lalich as a “poised and accurate passer in the pocket.”

This was all well and good until Lalich admitted to smoking pot and drinking underage after being on probation… for drinking underage. This infraction led to his dismissal from the UVA football team a week ago.

Now Scout.com is reporting that Lalich will start classes at Oregon State on Monday. He certainly didn’t waste any time, now did he? Still, he can’t play on the team until next year, after finishing one academic year of residence at OSU.

Other teams in the running for Lalich’s presence were UCLA and Cincinnati. Clearly, none of these teams are too concerned about his little drinking problem. Maybe Virginia is just too uptight… what’s a little illegal alcohol consumption, when your passing is what’s important?

Yeah, with two court appearances under Lalich’s young belt and a probation that will last until next July, I’m sure this won’t come back to bite Oregon State in the ass.

First off, what legal system is putting kids on probation for underage drinking? The Virginia campus must have barbed wire around the entire peremiter! Secondly, Lalich has DENIED smoking pot, and has passed every single drug test, since his first drinking incident. Al Groh contacted Mike Riley at Oregon State and recommended he look at Lalich, understanding that the Virginia administration decided to make an example of Lalich. Posted 09/24/2008 6:23 PMReply

If you were to ban every kid from extracurricular activities who drank while underage in college there would be nobody left. Lighten up Crystal Meth. Posted 09/24/2008 7:47 PMReply

While he denied smoking pot during probation he did admit to smoking marijuana before the probation started. And student athletes need to understand that they are under more scrutiny than other students. So while it may be accepted in your minds that college students drink it is still against the law if you are under the age of 21. If he thinks he is man enough to break the law he should be able to accept the consequences of that decision. Not to mention, as a graduate of UVA I applaud my University for holding excellence off the field in a higher regard than how well you can throw a football. Posted 09/25/2008 01:18 AMReply

"What legal system is putting kids on probation for underage drinking?" Are you kidding me?? First of all, UVA is one of the best schools in the country (in recent years it has been ranked #1 or #2 public university--second to U.C. Berkley). Additionally, UVA is run by its student government, and has a very strict code of honor (the University was founded by Thomas Jefferson). Its discipline program is one of single sanction--if you get caught even lying to a Professor, you WILL BE EXPELLED!!! In Charlottesville, academics is our game, not football. Any other school would've kept this little delinquent on the team, but here at Virginia we expect our athletes to excel both on and off of the field.

i went to UVA and we screwed up letting Peter go, i've meet Pete and he is a good kid so you don't know donkey. Groh did not kick Pete off the team Littlepage did and if anyone should be kicked out of C-ville it's his sorry arsh not Lalich. Littlepage and Casteen have turned UVA into a joke, when Casteen decided to honer Hokie Bruce Smith at halftime of last years UVA vs Tech game at UVA. What a joke UVA has kept student ballplayers around that have done way worse then Peter, this was a total mess from the start. Lalich tried to do the right thing and admit he messed up while on probation and the courts where going to let it go but Littlepage steps in and instead of trying to help the young man he boots him. What a no class move and made me sick to be a Wahoo. Give them hell in Oregon Pete and win the job and get paid in the NFL you are missed at UVA no matter what the hater above say.
