Penn's GREEKtober Fest 2008 All Weekouch

Penn’s bi-annual Greek Week, cleverly dubbed “GREEKtober Fest 2008” starts today and continues until October 5th. An ode to keggers, football, and community service (see, the Greek system doesn’t just consist of frat guys in faux-macho headbands), Greek Week should be an awesome time for everyone involved. Here’s a little taste of what’s to come:

Sept. 29: Bowling at Strikes, 8-12 p.m.
What could be better than free food, weird shoes, and knocking pins down with your friends?

Sept. 30: Blood Drive at Houston Hall, 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
This is obviously a very important cause – if you’d like to be a donor, sign up at www.penn.givesblood.org.

Oct. 1: Team Sober Info Meeting in Huntsman, 8:30 p.m.
Okay, so this may not be the most fun (or most popular) event, but it’s important nonetheless. The follow-up event will be, ironically, a bunch of registered frat parties on Saturday night.

Oct. 2: Faculty Tea at Castle (36th and Locust), 4-6 p.m.
A great way to mingle with (and suck up to) professors, the Faculty Tea is just what it sounds like: food, beverages, and chatting.

Oct. 3: Powderpuff Football at the 40th Street Field, 4-6 p.m.
Come watch sororities battle it out (in cute tank-tops)with a nice, wholesome football game. There’s supposed to be no tackling, but girls can get pretty feisty sometimes…

Oct. 4: Tailgate at the Blarney Stone, 10 a.m., Football Game vs. Dartmouth, 12 p.m., Block Party at various frats, 10 p.m.-2 a.m.
Start and end your day with a cold beer this Saturday (only if you’re over 21, or if your I.D. says you are). Between the tailgate, the football game, and both dry and wet frat parties later in the night, it will be quite the day.

Oct. 5: Academic Bowl in Huntsman, 2-4 p.m.
Anyone who’s feeling mentally stable after Saturday’s extensive activities should participate in the trivia competition that serves as the last Greek Week event.

Happy Greeking!
