As we reported earlier this week, 19-year-old Hofstra student Courtney Holt was “forced” to flee school after a group of “vengeful sorority girls” threatened to slit her throat.
Holt claimed the cult, Phi Epsilon, verbally and physically harassed her and planned to brand her in the groin with a hot fork during their initiation ceremony.
It has now come to light that Holt’s claims are completely unfounded, and school officials state “the sorority was not responsible of any wrongdoing.”
Their name might be cleared, but that hasn’t stopped students, many whom attend Hofstra, from writing a spew of vile, malicious tirades against Holt in the comments accompanying the OTR post on the story.
“This girl looks like straight up trailor (sic) trash who is out for money,” a reader posted. “If this were my sorority we sure as hell wouldn't want her in it.”
“This girl is a freak and needs to be put on a leash,” another added.
The firestorm of outrage didn’t stop at angry students. Comments have poured in, often in support of Phi Epsilon.
“R-E-S-P-E-C-T! I heart Phi Ep!” one reader wrote. “No stupid, little white trash girl will ever pull them down. Keep your heads held high girls.”
“It's a good thing this piece of trash depledged. Who needs a crazy girl who obviously doesn't have her head on straight in such a respected organization. This girl has some serious issues. Karmas a bitch.”
In addition to being called “deranged,” “unstable,” and a “skank,” readers criticized Holt for only making it through five days of the pledge program.
“Supposedly she stopped pledging cause her mother was on drugs, so maybe she is trying to get some money for her mother's next fix,” a poster speculated. “She's just doing what any loyal white trash skank would do... I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!”
Still, at least one girl appeared to take Holt’s side.
“Courtney Holt is one of my best friends,” a student claimed. “[During pledging] I barely talked to her. These girls completely took over her life. They all stressed respect, yet repeatedly hazed not only Courtney but the rest of the pledges… Courtney is one of the best people I know… She would never EVER go out of her way to hurt someone else.”
OTR would like to remind all readers to play nice when using our comment threads.
