Play of the Day: A Quick-Thinking Ball Boy Sets Up a Perfect Soccer Goal

Naturally, I have no idea what teams are playing or what the commentators are saying in this video, but I think the actions of the quick-acting ball boy speak for themselves.

In case you simple cannot follow the foreign concept known as soccer, here’s what happens: the ball goes out of play with Team A’s goalie running out after it. As soon as it does, the ball boy hands off the spare ball to a player from the opposing team who tosses it back into play before Team A’s goalie can return to defending the net. The result, as you would expect, is a goal for Team B.

Now, the whole affair seems slightly unfair to me. I mean, shouldn’t Team A’s goalie be given the opportunity to return to the net before the pass is thrown back into play? I suppose the rules of soccer don’t state he has to be back before the ball can be put back into play, but it definitely should be a rule.

Personally, I suspect that the ball boy was paid off, because he’s almost too good at his job.
