Nothing screams paper-thin defense like having an opponent dribbling the ball between your legs on a fast drive. I mean, when an opposing player treats you like a fleshy bump in the road that’s easily circumvented with minimal effort, you know your defensive skills are sorely lacking.
Over the weekend, New Orleans Hornets star Chris Paul proved why he’s one of the best young, fresh faces in the NBA by masterfully bypassing Jason Terry in one foul swoop then passing an alley-oop to his teammate, Rasual Butler, to score a much-needed basket against the Dallas Mavericks. While he could’ve taken all the glory for himself, Paul chose to go for the assist—a classy move that’s, more or less, unheard amongst today’s young athletes who would rather show off than be actual team players.
Needless to say, Chris Paul has all the makings of a future NBA legend, but only time will tell if he can keep up his intensity, like Kobe Bryant has. But, with plays like this one, I have no reason to believe that he won’t.
In all honesty, I’m surprised Terry didn’t spin in place like a revolving door. He might as well have.
