Play of the Day: Female Fan Angrily Commands NY Mets Shortstop Jose Reyes To Speak In English, Hilarity Ensues

It’s no secret that Jose Reyes, shortstop for the New York Mets, was born in the Dominican Republic. Naturally, this means that his native language is not English. However, just because he’s often heard conversing in Spanish to coworkers and friends alike doesn’t mean that he doesn’t understand our language fluently.

Apparently, not everyone is able to comprehend the simple fact that there are people on this planet who know/understand multiple languages but prefer to speak in their own.

Case-in-point: Over the weekend, one ignorant fan was forced to swallow a bitter pill of humility when she met Reyes at the NY Met Spring Training Camp. After hearing him converse extensively to his friend in Spanish, she became irate and told him, “Now we’re going to practice English.”

When Reyes appeared to not have understood her, the woman repeated the words. However, this time, Reyes turned to her and said, “Hello, how are you?” Then, he returned to his conversation with his friend.

Clearly, he understood everything the woman had said to him. Why? Because he knows both languages! I know it’s shocking, right?

How dare Reyes speak multiple languages but prefer his native one?!
