Play of the Day: Phoenix Suns Fan Nails Half-Court Shot to Win $77,777

On February 27th, Rhett Brown, a devoted Phoenix Suns fan, drove down from Seattle, Washington to watch his favorite team take on the Toronto Raptors. The highlight of the night, however, wasn’t seeing Shaquille O’Neal steamroll the Raptors; it was winning $77,777 in the blink of an eye.

For a second, let’s ignore the fact that the shot Rhett took couldn’t even pass for a “girly” throw. I mean, I’ve seen a lot of women swing a basketball between their legs before letting it go in a softball-esque motion, but I’ve never, ever seen someone follow it up by kicking their leg out behind them like they’re leaning in to kiss their husband who is heading off to fight in World War II.

It’s laughably bad, but the joke is ultimately on us in the end. After all, Rhett is now $77,777 richer, we’re, well, still perfectly in debt. Of course, if given the same opportunity, I doubt many of us would even come close to the basket. So, I suppose Brown deserves some props for nailing the shot—and subsequently dry-humping a gorilla.
