Poll: Will President Obama Legalize Marijuana?

Poll: Will President Obama Legalize Marijuana?

The number one issue that Americans want Barack Obama to address isn’t the War in Iraq or the ailing economy; it’s the legalization of marijuana.

On Obama’s now-defunct Change.gov website, millions of citizens voted on the most pressing issues that they wanted the newly elected president to tackle first, and the legalization of marijuana dominated the list from top to bottom.

Let’s face it; a vast number of college students try smoking marijuana at least once during their four years. It may be illegal, but that doesn’t stop many people from indulging in it from time to time, and it sure as day will not stop anyone in the future.

The question, then, is what will Obama do?

Overturning a century's worth of drug enforcement laws enacted against marijuana will not be easy, and if he attempted such a feat, he would surely be met with heavy criticism.

Still, even amongst law enforcement officers, there is a growing sentiment that the drug war against marijuana, one that has cost the governments millions of dollars over the years, should come to an end.

Norm Stamper, the former Police Chief of Seattle, explains why Obama should side with the pro-marijuanians.

Do you think Obama, in his first four years, will legalize marijuana? Do you want him to? [Note: Wanting him to is not an admission of having tried it… But we all know you probably have.]

Yes! Change will come to stoners.

No. There are more important issues to address.
