Princeton Finally Protests Proposition 8 by Banning Freshmen From Walking on Sidewalks

Several days ago, we reported that Princetonians were too busy with their heads stuck in textbooks (or up their asses, if you prefer) to join their Ivy League brethren in protesting Proposition 8, a California referendum that barred gay couples from getting married in the state.

Well, they finally sprung into action, and true to form, they went above and beyond with a more satirical, less traditional, very Princeton-esque protest.

Yesterday afternoon, a group of Princeton students, led by group organizer Chris Simpson ’09, commandeered a sidewalk on campus and barred freshman from walking on it, a gesture which they argue is akin to disallowing gay couples from getting married.

Everyone has the right to walk on a sidewalk; and so, everyone should have the right to get married.

OK, maybe the protest borders on the absurd, but the turnout was impressive—as you can see from the video. So, maybe there is something to overly dramatized protests…
