Profiles In Badass: Australian Man Loses Everything In Fire, Risks Life To Save Others

In times of crisis, a man has two options: fight or flight. He can either buckle under the pressure of impending doom and flee to safety or don the proverbial superhero outfit to risk life and limb to ensure the safety of others.

Brad Price, a resident of Kinglake, Australia, chose the latter this week when a series of brushfires broke out in Australia that claimed the lives of 181 people and destroyed 750 homes. Armed only with a camcorder and his steadfast resolve, Price, who lost everything he owned in the fires, drove around the small town in search of survivors who had been left behind.

CNN reports:

In an interview with the Nine Network's A Current Affair, Price described how he spent six hours searching "every single house" in central Kinglake for survivors.

[…] He was following the Australian government's long-standing fire policy of "stay and defend or leave early."

In total, Price saved the lives of a dozen residents during his house-to-house, one-man sweep of the city. Eventually, he collapsed to the ground from exhaustion, and his brother, who had journeyed into the town by circumventing the police roadblocks, found him lying on the side of a road.

The shaky cam video of Price’s exploits is a testament to the bravery of one man and the power of the human spirit to preserve against all odds. Thanks to his selfless actions, Brad Price is officially one of the biggest badasses to ever walk the earth and an inspiration to all of us.

Give this man the key to the city... or, you know, whatever the Australian equivalent is.
