Profiles in Badass: Captain Sully Sullenberger

Chesley B. Sully Sullenberger is the hero of the year, which would be more impressive if it wasn’t January 16th, but I think he’ll retain that title for quite some time. Sully is the captain of the US Airways plane that went down in the Hudson yesterday, and he saved all 150 people on board’s lives by landing the plane on the river like it was a runway.

Sully was an Air Force Pilot and president of his own airline safety firm. So pretty much you couldn’t have picked a better pilot to steer a dead plane successfully into a river. I haven’t seen any interviews with the guy yet, but all the passengers are singing his praises, and I kid you not, he even has his own Facebook fan page with over 4,000 members since under 24 hours ago. What an age we live in.

Captain Sully walked the plane up and down twice as it was sinking to make sure that absolutely everyone was off, which they were. Hats off to you, Sully, for giving us a bit of good news for a change.
