Usually, our ‘Profiles In Badass’ feature is reserved for human beings who perform exceptional feats of strength and/or exude a level of bravado that is seemingly unmatched by their peers. However, the animal kingdom is not without its own acts of badassery. And so, today we make an exception for this fine Australian cow that was reportedly struck by lightning several days ago and survived.
According a James Cook University geo-sciences expert, cows are susceptible to lightning strikes because the grass they’re eating helps conduct electricity during a lightning strike. Of course, most cows—let’s ballpark it and say 90 percent—die when they’re hit.
This makes sense, because well, the electric shock must be strong enough to melt your brain and cook you like a piece of rotisserie.
Still, after being struck and temporarily knocked off its feet, this cow more or less looked God in the eyes and said, “Thank you, may I have another?” Sure, it suffered from severe burns, but its dashing good looks were preserved.
Something to ponder: Do you think drinking its now-electrified milk will give you immunity to lightning? No word yet on whether or not it does, but the research is currently on-going.
