PSU Track Star to Compete at 2008 Olympics

Penn State track and field junior Aleesha Barber has received the news that she qualifies to represent Trinidad and Tobago in the 2008 Olympics. The Decatur, Georgia native competed Saturday in the Sagicor National Open Track and Field Championships at Hasely Crawford Stadium, and performed very successfully in the 100-meter hurdles finishing in 13.07.

Barber is the second female from the Nittany Lion track and field team to compete in the Olympic Games. The first was Connie Moore who led the United States in the 2004 Games.

The six-time All-American athlete had an outstanding season where she won the 4X400-meter relay race at the NCAA Championships. She also is the 2008 Big Ten Champion in the short hurdles event.
