You all recall the bizarre story. As the Olympic torch went through Alaska in '02 (wow, has it been that long?), a kid held up a banner that read "Bong Hits 4 Jesus." Despite not making any sense, his principal took the banner away and suspended him for ten days.
Well, Joseph Frederick was having none of that. He took his free speech case to court, and now, six years later, the matter has finally been settled by the Supreme Court. Yes, "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" went all the way to the Supreme Court.
So what was the ruling? Frederick was awarded $45,000 and the school is now being forced to hold a forum on free speech. The only way this could have been better is if the judge sentenced the principal to be his butler or something.
It's nice to see that our constitution still functions correctly, even if it's just to defend our right to say "Bong Hits 4 Jesus."
