Response to "The List" is Massive, Angry, Hilarious, Unsettling

So the new list has been up for about 48 hours now and honestly, I didn’t anticipate this much of a reaction this quickly. 5,500 views and 150 comments already? I’ve read all of them, and I’m pressed to address a few things.

- I didn’t post this after bid day on purpose. The list represents a culmination of everything that happened last year for the most part, and freshmen reading this apparently want to know the ranking order going in. Yes, I’ll be breaking down the new pledge classes, but who’s to say what those new members will actually contribute until at least next semester?

- 80% of people are saying “The List is wrong” to some degree. What a surprise. But watch me not care. Everyone will always say the list is wrong.

- I’m just now realizing that people literally consult this list as a guide to deciding what their next four years is going to be like (and possibly much, much longer if you believe in the Butterfly Effect). That has kind of hit me as a massive responsibility, that something I write is literally going to impact people’s lives to that degree.

- But, the thing is, if you are actually consulting this list to make your decision, you deserve whatever path that follows. If you’re picking a house based on my “cool rankings” instead of the people you’ve met, you’re doing it wrong. Remember that essentially, you’re picking a group of friends that will stay with you for who knows how long. If you pick a douchey, high-rep house just because you think it’ll get you laid, you’re an idiot, and I’m glad my list misled you.

- Greek life is superficial. There’s no way to get around that, and stop trying to pretend like it’s not. I merely report on the superficiality of it, and yes it’s massive amounts of fun to watch the arguing that follows, which only proves what I write to be true. That being said, there is a right way to do Greek life, and that, I’m being told, is the way Jeff Roan does it.

That’s all for now. Bid day Friday? Remember to send me those Facebook group links.
