Sean Avery Disses Elisha Cuthbert, NHL Disses Sean Avery

Nobody likes when their ex starts dating someone new, but not everybody would use that as an opportunity to bash said ex in front of the media. That honor belongs to NHL player Sean Avery.

Known as an agitator, the Canadian hockey player lived up to his reputation yesterday. Last night his team, the Dallas Stars, were set to play the Calgary Flames, a team which includes Dion Phaneuf, who is now dating Avery’s ex-gf, Elisha Cuthbert. Still with me? Okay, good. With that little fact in mind, Avery asked the media to gather 'round after his morning practice, and offered up this lovely tidbit:

“I am really glad to be back in Calgary, I love Canada. I just want to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about. Enjoy the game tonight.”

As a result of these oh-so-mature words, the NHL suspended Avery for “inappropriate” comments and conduct “detrimental” to the game of hockey. The Dallas Stars backed up the league saying, “Had the league not have suspended him, the Dallas Stars would have. This organization will not tolerate such behavior, especially from a member of our hocky team. We hold our team to a higher standard and will continue to do so.”

Oh Avery, is it any wonder that you are the most hated player in the league? And no, that’s not my opinion. A 2007 poll of NHL players actually found you to be the most hated player in the league. You must be so proud.
