It is do or die for the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos.

DO. OR. DIE.

This weekend they will face off against Long Beach State’s Dirtbags in a baseball double-header that will determine whether they will continue on their road towards the conference title or head home empty-handed. Exciting stuff to be sure, but all I can ponder right now is why anyone in the world would name their team the ‘Dirtbags’. I mean—really? Really?

I digress…

While the Gauchos have eked out a favorable 30 wins and 17 losses throughout the season, they have only managed nine wins and six losses in the Big West division. For you non-sports fans out there, that’s not so good. To add insult to injury, they have lost four of their last five games. Can you say slump?

The odds aren’t looking good for poor UCSB. If I were a betting man (and I am), I would root for the Dirtbags. While the Douchebags Dirtbags have a similar record, they have a slightly stronger pitching staff that will likely keep UCSB’s batters in check.

Will the Gauchos pull off an upset and break their 3rd place stalemate with UC Davis– or, will they choke harder than the New England Patriots? I would say the latter, but I don’t think anyone could choke harder than the Patriots.

18-1. Never forget!
