According to a New York City police spokesman, John Costelloe (not Castello), 47, was found dead in his Brooklyn home on December 18th, allegedly due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Students—and much of the television-viewing public—would probably recognize Costelloe best from his 2006 role as a short-order cook named Jim Witowski, also known as Johnny Cakes, on The Sopranos.

The investigation is currently on-going, and as of this morning, there is no official word on what may have pushed the actor to commit suicide.
