Spirit One Christian Center Calls Obama Presidency a Sin

If you visit the Spirit One Christian Center website, it will tell you, “Welcome! Spirit One Christian Center is a friendly, friendly, friendly church! Come as you are,” but it should perhaps say, “Come as you are— unless you’re Muslim or have a Muslim-sounding name.” This past Sunday, the church sparked polemics after posting a sign saying, “America, we have a Muslim president. This is a sin against the Lord.”

According to the Kansas CW:

The sign outside Spirit One Christian Center, 1515 E Harry St, reads "America We Have A Muslim President. This Is Sin Against The Lord." The church stands by the sign even though Obama is a Christian.

The controversy over the sign led to a heated argument outside the church Sunday morning with both sides shouting at each other.

Spirit One is not stranger to controversy. In 2007, the IRS threatened to revoke the church's tax exempt status because of other messages on the marquee, e-mails and web postings about politicians and issues. The church defended its actions as free speech.

Is the Spirit One Christian Center case actually an example of exercising free speech? Perhaps. But is calling Obama a Muslim also a lie? Yes.
