The New Mexico Sun News may have “spoiled the ending,” but it is a happy ending for the Democrats. The liberal alternative newspaper features the headline “Obama Wins!” in the latest edition to hit newsstands. There’s even a promise of a special collector’s insert inside.
What? How? Why? Well the Sun News is a bi-monthly newspaper so the Oct. 26-Nov. 8 issue had go on sale before the election, but the editors didn’t want to miss out on the political action. Plus, now the newspaper can get all the glory:
In an article explaining their choice, the editors unabashedly wrote, “When it comes to calling the winner of a presidential election, everyone wants to be first. The New Mexico Sun News hereby claims that achievement.”
See, being premature isn't always bad.

Stumble It

won the Scholastic Magazine election by mostly sixth graders.
These 38 endorsements, plus about 20 more, are posted at mybarackobama.com in my personal blog, listed under Stephen FoxThey are also posted in 7 very long articles at opednews.com, and there is an opportunity to comment at will and at length.
This was not a stunt, whatsoever. Our next issue comes out 4 days after the election, and his victory would be old news by then. We are not seers nor fortune tellers, but we are like many Americans Poli Sci wonks, scholars, and Democratic strategists. I personally have been concentrating on making
happen the editorial page endorsement avalanche for Obama we are seeing now, and like a gardener, proud to hold up the first fruits of victory.
The comparison with the Chicago Tribune and Dewey is irrelevant. We are proud of endorsing him in this way, to just declare him the winner, which apparently you would have known if you were still in 6th grade.
By making this out to be a "stunt" or a "prank," the Senior Political Correspondent at CNN dismissed our motivation. Nonetheless, we are glad we did what we did, and certainly not "just to be first." The endorsements are all at OpEdNews.com and at mybarackobama.com at my blog site: read them in succession, and you will comprehend more clearly our effort and its integrity. future as it is not "truth" until it is. It is not "fair" to predict, showing no respect for the men & women who have fought & still fight for our rights to vote and have a voice. They could have easily waited until the election was over (delivered a delayed paper) and noted that they wanted to be fair to the readers by not predicting the outcome, especially in this historic election. It would have given their paper integrity & class. Would have..... Posted 10/29/2008 11:41 AMReply
