Everyday in our townhouse there has been a tradition going on for some 3 years now. No matter who is in the house, or what other stuff needs doing, the Price is Right is on the television during lunchtime. Starting back when Bob Barker was still the host promoting spaying and neutering your pets, and now as Drew Carey has taken the reins.
Albeit, Drew Carey sorta sucks as the new host, it is still a tradition to be kept.
A couple years ago my housemates and I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a showing of TPIR thanks to the 8 free tickets that came in the mail the second to last week of school. So…we went.
For around 360 dollar total each (including airfare, scummy hotel, and rental car) we all headed to LA for a 3 day, 4 night whirlwind adventure…total sleep = 7 hours TOTAL!...but that’s another story, I digress.
Something amazing has happened…for the first time in the 36 years of Price is Right history, someone guessed the EXACT price of the showcase at the end of the show. Not just CLOSE…but EXACT!
The gentleman (named Terry) first started out by guessing the exact price on a cooker which not only got him up on stage to participate, but also won him $500. Now this isn’t uncommon, and in fact has happened several times in the past.
The show continued on Terry ended up in the Showcase Showdown…the pinnacle of Price is Right opportunities. If you guess within $500 of your showcase and your opponent doesn’t do better, you win BOTH showcases! The woman contestant guessed first and was within this $500 spread…She had just won both if the man guessed wrong…but he didn’t.
Terry guessed the exact price of $23,743 for his showcase…EXACT!!! Thus he won BOTH showcases, which included over $56,000 worth the prizes; trips around the world and a variety of merchandise. Everyone freaked out as you would expect…and then the cameras were cut off because the producers needed to make sure no cheating occurred. It didn’t. So they did a second taping, this time however, Drew Carey hardly reacted at all, thus making him an ass…but that’s beside the point.
Some sources believe Terry was paying attention to the prices being yelled out by a friend in the audience known as Ted who is a regular attendee/viewer of the show and a supreme guesser. Either that or this man has both a photographic memory for retail prices AND has more luck than a leprechaun…either way, he is a legend now, and college students should rightly acknowledge him as such.
