The Real Winner of Last Night? CNN's Holograms

Last night was historic for more than one reason. Yeah, yeah, we elected the nation’s first black president, but more importantly, we used ****ing holograms for the first time! CNN has been the master of technical wizardry for some time now with their magic map and floating pie charts, but this is a new level of badassery.

The way it works is that there are 20-somthing cameras set up in a tent wherever the person is. They take shots from every angle of the person and then beam that image into the CNN studios where they make it look like the person is standing there. That’s some Obi Wan Kenobi shit for sure.

Granted, the person talking to the hologram can’t actually see them (AC in this case) but is sure as hell looks like he can, which is really all you need. So technically it isn’t a hologram, because you can’t see the 3-D image not on TV, but it’s still pretty damn cool nonetheless.

Yeah, alright it’s completely unnecessary and you would have much better picture with just, I don’t know, a video, but whatever. We have to get to the future eventually right? Also, there were only two hologram interviews all night, one of them with correspondent Jessica Yellin and the other with Will.I.Am. Really? You picked Will.I.Am to be the second person ever interviewed by hologram? CNN, sigh.
