We’re tired of cheerleaders. Sure, they jump around and look pretty and date all the popular boys, but you know what? We’re over it. That’s why we at OTR are declaring band geeks the new cheerleaders. These seven sexy ladies show that just because you know what a spit valve is, doesn’t mean you can’t become incredibly hot, rich and famous.

1) Before Halle Berry was getting paid millions of dollars to show her tits in Swordfish, she played the flute at Bedford High School in Cleveland. Has that come in handy in any of her movie roles since? Well, not really, but in case she ever wants the lead in Bret Ratner’s The Pied-Piper she might have a pretty good shot.

2) We had a hunch about Gwen Stefani’s marching band experience considering her videos prominently feature band geeks the way most feature back up dancers. Her single “Wind it Up” might be the best example of this which features cymbals, horns and drums subbing in for your typical turntable sounds. Gwen was in fact a band geek herself, playing the piccolo at Loara High School in Anaheim, California.

3) Pamela Anderson has almost become a caricature of herself in recent years, but before the failed marriages to gross tattooed rock stars, before the 58 breast augmentation/de-augmentation procedures, before Baywatch, and even before Tool Time, Pam was a sax player at Highland Secondary School. I knew she had to have learned to blow from somewhere…Hey-OH!

4) Gloria Estefan has more Grammys than you can shake a maraca at, but she got her start playing the clarinet at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, a strictly catholic school. She may be a sex icon before your time, but the thought of Gloria Estefan playing the clarinet in a Catholic school girl uniform should be enough to do something for you.

5) Julia Roberts wrapped that million dollar enormous smile of her around a clarinet back in the day. The actress may have academy awards under her belt, but we know her deep, dark secret that she’s really a band geek at heart. It’s OK Julia, we won’t tell anyone. Oh, well, I guess we just did. Sorry! But I think your career will survive.

6) Vanessa Williams went to the prestigious School of Performing Arts in New York whereshe played the French horn. The singer now appears on Ugly Betty in a role where it might come back to bite her in the ass that she was ever a band geek. Betty totally plays the tuba by the way.

7) In case Jennifer Garner ever needed an alias with mad saxophone skills, she was certainly covered with her band experience at George Washington. She and Pam Anderson should have a sax dual one of these days. But Pam would probably just take her shirt off and everyone would declare her the winner. Life’s really not fair.

Halle Berry was never paid any extra money for flashing her tatas in "Swordfish"--just a publicity stunt thing--Halle even commented jokingly it wasn't true and great publicity.

Nor do I think she played the flute nor any other instrument in HS to my knowledge--she was a cheerleader, Prom Queen, Class Prez, school newspaper and maybe even Beta Club or National Honor Society. What's your source?

From the woman herself, unless InStyle forges their Q&A:

Thanks Paul...must've missed that issue. Stand corrected. Did know she's into painting--she has a studio room for painting at her house etc. But I do know I am right about the $$$/Swordfish thing--that can be found on the Net or her imdb page. Posted 09/29/2008 10:50 PMReply

When you say "bad head" does that mean bad meaning like bad or bad meaning good, like what Run DMC said? Posted 10/02/2008 2:26 PMReply

Not really an A celebrity, but Jenn Sterger (FSU cowgirl) made a point about her band geek days... Posted 10/02/2008 10:50 PMReply
