The Twilight Reviews Are In: It Sucks

The Twilight Reviews Are In: It Sucks

Teenage girls everywhere will surely be heartbroken that their already favorite movie has a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes. Just kidding, no they won’t, they’ll still all flock to see it this weekend and proclaim it the greatest thing since David Archuleta. But just for fun, let’s see what the reviews of Twilight are saying:

Newsday - With its vapor-thin plot and goofy gimmicks (game of vampire baseball, anyone?), Twilight seems best left to its impressionable teenage fans.

Boxoffice Magazine - Stewart, in particular, delivers her lines as if simultaneously confused and half asleep. At least Pattinson gives emoting a shot but in the end he doesn't fare much better either.

AP - There's nothing transporting about the visuals. Twilight was a famously low-budget production compared to most traditional blockbusters, but this is ridiculous.

Metromix - The term 'meh' was added to the dictionary this week, and just in time.

Variety - A disappointingly anemic tale of forbidden love that should satiate the pre-converted but will bewilder and underwhelm viewers who haven't devoured Stephenie Meyer's bestselling juvie chick-lit franchise.

EDGE - Put simply, it lacks fangs.

But the one I’m sure everyone will listen to is:

Time - It rekindles the warmth of great Hollywood romances, where foreplay was the climax and a kiss was never just a kiss.

Oh Time, always a pushover.

Edward is described as hot in the novel. However, his movie character is totally NOT hot. The movie characters totally do not match the characters in the book......very disappointing:( I do not want to watch the movie Posted 11/20/2008 10:22 PMReply

ok i agree when u have such an amazing series of course the movie ccant compare...but come on the readers of this series are mainly older teen/adult girls. In the theater I had adults next to me and my college friends w/ me and all of us were like ok? This movie is for kids? THEY DONT EVEN SHOW FANGS?! Also they cut down the story from jacob really bad...made me sad Posted 11/21/2008 04:04 AMReply

this is a very big let down and disappointment. the movie moved too fast, was very choppy, and i'm sure if you didn't read the book, you would be at a complete loss. the acting was horrible, i felt like i was watching a college play. this movie had a ton of potential but there was a lot lacking. i'm going to stick to the books. the film was disappointing. many things did not follow the book, the music was ridiculous, and the chemistry between bella and edward was not sincere. it was an awkward mess. Posted 11/21/2008 09:25 AMReply

the movie coould have been A LOT better. It went by too quick without a lack of any real explanations to wat was going on. I had to keep remembering parts of the book to put the pieces together. A non twilight reader saw it with me and had no clue to what was going on. The acting couldve have been better and it seems that no real effort was put into the film Posted 11/21/2008 09:33 AMReply

The movie was cheesy but they didn't have that big of a budget. I didn't mind most of the actors if you put it in the context of adolescent, melodramatic teen first love. It is was it was meant to be. But Kristen Stewart was terrible! She hardly recited a line. It was as if it was Bella Swan playing Kristen Stewart instead of the other way around. Say what you will about Pattinson, at least he played the Character. I suspect the effects will get alot better with the budget they'll get for the next movie. hopefully, her acting will improve as well. Posted 11/21/2008 09:47 AMReply

Those frikin vampires are the reason the world economy is sucking so bad! Get over these stupid romantic fantasies about MONSTERS and go back to the way things used to be! Dracula or Nosferatu is what people should see a vampire as, not some wannabe dude who people say is "hot" just because he is "Edward Cullen" (again.... who????). This is so sad, I laugh at all the teenage girls twho need to turn to stuff like this to feel loved ^_^ what has happened to America's youth?? Posted 11/21/2008 10:36 AMReply

For all of you who keep talking about them not having fangs, that because if you would have read the books THEY DON'T HAVE FANGS! But yeah the movie sucked! There was no character development and they changed it around to much. The acting sucked and it was corny as hell. Of course all the 14 year old girls loved it and that exactly who it was made it for. It was immature and down right stupid. Posted 11/21/2008 10:49 AMReply

The acting was absolutely horrendous! It was like watching a film made by a high school student. There was barely any music in between scenes. In the cafeteria scenes, the kids in the background were extremely loud. I was extremely disappointed in this movie. They could have done a way better job. I guess that's what you get when Summit is producing your movie. =0 Posted 11/21/2008 11:56 AMReply

The movie could have been better, yes, but you cant get the same feel in a movie as in a book! So obviously it wasnt going to compare. I thought it was still done well enough that it was totally worth going to. Posted 11/21/2008 12:19 PMReply

I have yet to see the movie, but come on, the preconceived notions that the movie is going to be "AMAZING" were blown way out of proportion. It's JUST a movie. I've read the books, and of course the movie is not going to be able to completely dumb down a 500+ page novel into a 1.5 hour movie (if you can't read it in that time span, then you shouldn't be predicting that you'd get the same experience while watching a movie in that amount of time). AND BY THE WAY ... NO FANGS CUZ THAT'S HOW IT WAS IN THE BOOK ... seriously ... if you want to see an action packed film with blood and gore and everythign in between sneak out and go see James Bond, let the true Twilight fans enjoy the movie and the fact that someone tried to make the images held in their head a reality ... something tangible. I took my 11 year old daughter & 2 of her friends to see it last nite. They've all read the books numerous times and loved the movie. It seemed to be aimed at pre-teens, who don't care/notice if the acting and effects sucked. I wish Edwards messy hair didn't look so stiff. Sexy hair should move, like Bella's. My sister and I went to see the movie after both reading the series. We both were disappointed in the movie but we loved the book. Bella ruined the movie. Her acting was horrible and she looked like she was going into convultions most of the time. Some of the other characters just didn't fit the description of the characters in the book. Plus, they skipped daround way too much! Hopefully the next movie will be better. Posted 11/21/2008 8:47 PMReply

Twilight the movie = Epic Fail
The whole thing felt forced and had absolutely no fluent rhythm to it at all. I'm deeply dissappointed in the editing and writing. The casting was semi-perfectly, but the lines they were given to act out were horrible and made the movie very cheesey.

Sadly disapointing... The book was cheesy but I had hoped that the movie would make the story more edgy and cater to a broader spectrum of viewers instead of just appeasing the less sophisticated appetites of giddy teenagers. Stephanie Meyers must have signed the first movie deal that was thrown on her lap. Clearly she is not taking care of her characters. She could have taken them to a new level of adoration, but instead sent them out to the masses like a circus ring leader greedy for a quick buck. They deserved better. Posted 11/21/2008 10:10 PMReply

I seriouly don't know how they're going to do New Moon with Kristen Stewarts interpretation of Bella. This isn't an indie flick. Bella's supposed to be vunerable, not some unfeeling, coma induced, freak with something in her eye! What was up with all the eye fluttering! Get Emma Watson for the next movie. And dude, Rosalie needs to loose some weight and get a better dye job. And who wears baseball hats like that?! I could go on and on! Posted 11/21/2008 11:52 PMReply

the actors are amazing and they managed with a low budget to make a movie that beats all the other movies. I like Harry Potter but Twilight my god... SOOO much better.

I'm a huge fan of the series but this movie broke my heart.....Edward was supposed to be strong, confident even arrogant, not shaky, stuttering and scared. The movie didn't establish a strong bond between Bella and Edward and that is what the book is all about. And come on, we have seen vampire movies before...did they need all those silly visual effects to show their speed and strength...like the blurriness when they moved? The director failed us big time. I could have directed a better movie! Posted 11/22/2008 2:30 PMReply

I read all four books in about two weeks. I could not put them down. I saw the movie and while they did change it a little it was great. Anyone who knows anything about taking a book and making it into a movie knows that some things have to be changed in order for it to flow. Kristen Stewart did a great job of playing Bella, she was exactly how I pictured her in my head as I read the books. She was exasperating and clumsy and she did exactly what Meyers wrote. Edward Edward Edward! Robert did a great job making Edward seem other-worldly and not just your average lovestruck 17 year old vampire. Speaking of which all of you who hate this movie and lothe the tale, have you ever seen Buffy the Vanpire Slayer or worse yet Once Bitten. I maen really as vampire love stories go there are a lot of movies that are way worse then Twilight. I loved it and can not wait to see the next instalment. Meyer is a great writer and I know that even if she changed the topic I would read her books. Go Team Edward! RDL-B,NY Posted 11/22/2008 2:35 PMReply

i am a huge twilight fan and the movie was such a let down....kristen stewart was one of the worst actors i have seen play a main character..the hospital scene where she stutters was excrutiating. robert pattison does have potential, but i don't think he lived up to it in this movie. not to mention, they had zero chemistry, everything looked so awkward. the worst acting job does go to the girl who played jessica though..she was awful. everything was choppy and it felt like key lines were just thrown in random spots..major disappointment. can we all forget that the movie is never as good as the book and focus on the real problems here??? Acting: sucked!!! i mean honestly every single one of them fail the only thing kristen stewart can do well is moan in pain. All of the jumping/climbing/glittery-sunlight scenes were ridiculous! they must have saved all of their Special effects money for the fight at the end, which is tragic in itself. The camera man seemed like he had parkinsons disease the damn thing was shaking so much. The scenes were choppy, there had to be a better way to lay out the scenes for this movie that was smoother than what they had. i think it went with the book well, all the main parts were there, but on screen they are empty and easily laughed at, as the entire theatre did when i saw it. It was sad man, sad. hopefully the money from this movie will make the next one better....and WHY are all of the indians so ugly???? Posted 11/22/2008 9:48 PMReply

Well, the Twilight books and movie are all directed toward young teenage girls, and I imagine in their hormone-addled minds this movie could have seemed good. They'll look through the bad acting, horrible effects and ridiculous, cheesy story and squeal with delight as Bella and the "hot" vampire make a vain attempt to deliver their badly-written lines in something other than a droning monotone. All in all, it's a horrible movie based on a horrible book based on a stupid premise and produced by a terrible company. Enough said.

My score- 1/4

so this is coming from someone who didnt read the book but figured that it was another cutsey forbidden love story, so i decided to go see it ( for free of course). the movie sucked bad. the acting was bad on both parts. i mean edward was completly awkard the entire time. but he's cute so i forgive him. bella is ugly and not to mention her voice. all in all the movie lacked chemistry between the main characters, which are suppoused to be bought to life with the chemistry in the first place. edward was a better actor than bella. the "hot and steamy lines" sucked because the characters lacked emotions while saying them. its so bad, that im actually going to go and read the book just to get the real effect of the quote un quote " love story" Posted 11/23/2008 03:13 AMReply

Everyone is so disappointed with "Twilight" but I thought it was a good movie, especially for teens. Maybe you're disappointed because you expected to see all the traditional gruesome vampire flick, but instead it was a film about love, relationships (family and friends), and the revelation of a legend. This was a great part 1 for a series. It set the tone for future movies that need to be more dramatic and action-packed. Posted 11/23/2008 10:51 AMReply

i thought the movie highlighted the bad points of twilight instead of the good ones. example: bella and edward ARE very cheesy and boring (let's be honest) but in the book, it worked. here it doesn't. their relationship seemed even more rushed than in the book. i was expecting them to enhance bella/edward, but it was the opposite. edward was like a freak, he had these grotesque facial expressions that had me laughing or arching an eyebrow. and sorry i don't think he's hot at all. bella was way too unemotional and didn't seem dazzled at all... in fact they didn't even use the dazzle lines cause bella didn't look dazzled, she looked bored or forced.. her voice is very sucky, why couldn't have they done something about that?? the whole thing felt rushed and yet drawn-out....
yeah, like the book, but ten times worse... i didn't like it at all!!!!!

I think you all need to give them a break.. They are not well known actor/actresses, they had an extremely low budget. I have read all the books.. I loved them. Let's be honest, there are things you can put on paper and they sound find and wonderful, you say them out loud- or better yet try to act them out- and it's going to sound cheesy. With the money they are going to get from this movie I'm sure that New Moon will be much better, and also Kristin was in school while shooting Twilight.. That has to be difficult to balance. New Moon will be better I'm sure. But all in all it wasn't horrible. Please understand that to fit the entire book and every 'scene' and situation in the book into a movie is impossible. It would be a 5-6 hr. movie easy, so try to be understanding and compassionate towards them, its not easy and we all need to keep that in mind. There's no reason to be hateful and run them down (directors, actors/actreses and crew alike) just because you didn't like it. If you didn't enjoy it that's fine, but to be malicious, its just not called for.

Hated the books. Was not surprised I hated the movie. I hated the books because they were poorly written, had a lack of a decent plot, and the characters were not relatable at all and were Mary Sues and Gary Stus. Hated the movie because it just plain sucked. Terrible acting, bad choice in music, horrible make-up job, and not a very good choice in cast. If anything the movie only proves my point that the Twilight saga completely and totally sucks. Posted 11/23/2008 3:42 PMReply

i think that if you actually read the book you would enjoy the movie it gives you sense of an image as to how some of the things that happen...some of the things that hapen in the movie however are not what happend in the movie. i disagree with how the characters dont match...they sure the hell doo! kristen who plays bella was akward, pretty and wierd which is exactly how she is in the book. edward was beautiful as i figured he would be. i read all the books and it is true the books are always better then the movie BUT if i was to make twilight a movie it wouldve looked just like how it is...so quit talking shit. everyone has their own opinion. im a dedicated fan...lol Posted 11/23/2008 10:28 PMReply

no matter how much it sucked you know that all of the girls out there are going to defend it even thought deep down inside they know that it sucked and the only reason why they think that he is hot is because he is in a movie if you had taken any one and put them in that role they still probably would have thought that he was hot even if they used elephant man Posted 11/23/2008 11:29 PMReply

Bella in Twilight was awful, she's not even pretty enough to be so different. What's so great about her? At least Edward had a style, Bella ruined it. Kristen Stewart should not have been the actress to play Bella, totally disappointed and should have just kept to the book. Posted 11/23/2008 11:37 PMReply

I agree with the reviews as well. I was really disappointed! The books are completely amazing and the movie left something to be desired. It was definitely directed towards pre-teens which is ridiculous! The effects were...well...horrible! I didn't like the choices for the characters, the choice for Bella was the worst ever. She has no acting skills! Whatsoever! In the scene where she's in the hospital, it looks like she's going to have a seizure. And it was barely like the book at all. Seriously?! I really expected more! Oh, and what was with their hair? The Edward, Alice, and Jasper looked like they had just rolled out of bed. The worst of all was that in the book, Edward's character is sauve and cool. In the movie, he looked unsure of himself. Kind of like the kid who runs the projector at school. Okay, I'm done ranting. I hope I didn't offend anyone, but this is a big deal! Posted 11/24/2008 01:20 AMReply

I was dragged to go see this. Complete disappointment. The acting was so hideous, I cringed every time it stood out GREATLY. Really, "my special brand of heroine"? Furthermore, the camera shots were just as bad, if not more. The camera was SO SHAKY it drived me NUTS. Me and my girlfriend were laughing at how cheesy it was to the point where people around us were annoyed. I'm currently a highschool srtudent at an art school studying theater and film, and I can downright say that THAT was HORRIBLE! Worst $2 I’ve ever spent. Posted 11/24/2008 01:54 AMReply

@ Anonymous: Come on ppl this was a totally B rated movie. If it werent got the book ti would NEVER have made it to theaters and you all know it!! The sarcasim was left out compeletly, not once did Edwars even LOOK like he was madly in love with Bella, she was incredible monotone and he looked like he was bored and annoyed the whole time. The move looked like someone took a music viedo, added some lines from the book and called it a movie... I think it needs to be redone by someone who knows what the hell they are doing. High Schoolers could have done a better job that this.... Very dissapointed... Posted 11/24/2008 09:06 AMReply

Went to the midnight showing and enjoyed the atmosphere that goes with that. The movie, though enjoyed, left me slightly disappointed. It lacked character building of all of the Cullens and the building up of what is Edward and Bella. Kristen Stewart was a HUGE disappointment!! Before New Moon they either need to get her acting lessons or get a new Bella. The movie was definately choppy and was missing my favorite part, which was the Blood Test in science class. Hopefully there will be a new director and better special effects for the next movies. Posted 11/24/2008 10:29 AMReply

Twilight was awesome to read. Anyone who isn't a hopeless romantic should not read the series because it's not your kind of book. I like the movie but I agree that everything happens way to fast. I know you can't do everything in a movie that is in the book but geez woman you at least need to have that connection. For the Next movie let the professionals decide, let a few fans watch the movie before you send it to print. We can help. Other than that, couple of GREAT scenes. Can't wait to watch the next one. I have a higher expectation because you know what NOT to do. Posted 11/24/2008 1:34 PMReply

The books are good by I did not enjoy the movie at all. I came away very disapointed with the movie and I think that I will stick to the books. The acting was subpar and the stoy was so out there at times. A little more resurch of the area that the story is based on would have been good as well as the Forks High School is not a 2 story brick building.@ Anonymous: Posted 11/24/2008 5:23 PMReply

The book series is amazing. but the movie, not so much. they left out crucial details and didn't follow the book very well. the acting, terrible. except for taylor lautner. for the little part he was in, he did a great job. otherwise it was cheesy and disapointing.

hopefully they will have a higher budget for the next one. and it won't be so cheesy.

There were definitely some parts in the moive that were not that good. Like the special effects for one.. they sucked. I couldnt help laughing in some parts that i know were not supposed to be funny. They definitely did not develop Edward and Bella's relationship well enough. They were so in love in the book but in the moive they are just like another teenage couple in terms of romance. I blame the film company though.. summit entertainment always has low budget films and i think it was just stupid for them to take on a film that they knew was sure to be a huge box office hit. Overall i think the move was really good. They cut out way too much though but from the beginning they said it was going to be Twilight the movie not Twilight the book the movie. The book is always better than the movie.. and that goes for everthing not just twilight. I likeed it minus the obvious disappointments.

I have read and re-read all the books.. The commercials for TWILIGHT were all screaming "AWESOMENESS." I sat down to watch the movie..and well. it was alright until Bella stood in front of the fan, and Edward looked like a round of Ex Lax hit him full force. James over did his part sniffing and smelling the air like he did. Kristen was Horrible. she is a very monotoned actress. shes very akward and bland. her movie the messengers was...better in my opinion than this. and robert. had some issues in the movie. he over acted in some part and i felt he truely didnt understand edwards...haunting mind at all. alice was good i love her even in themovie. and jasper..hes hot but he needs to tone down his character. jasper is ment to hang out in the back ground and keep his distance and not looked like he has something stuck in his underwear. everyone else in the movie was okay. jessica was annoying like she was supposed to be. but. the sun scene and a few other scenes needed work...and sam...was kinda...nasty. i pictured him to be cuter. if they keep him as the character...leah then was very very lucky he fell for emily.rd and very bad., Robert...was okay in some scenes but he Posted 11/26/2008 8:01 PMReply

Of course I knew that the movie could never capture the true essence of the book, however I expected a much, much more. The movie was so rushed and they barely developed Edward and Bella's relationship. My favorite parts in the book were when Edward would visit her a night, and the barely had any of those scenes!!! I initally thought Kristen Stewart would be amazing, seeing that I had pictured someone like her for Bella, however she is not a good actress and her voice is so manly. Hopefully New Moon will be better, seeing as they can put more money into the effects. I really wish they could redo this movie, because it could have been sooooo much better!! The movie was HORRIBLE! They took quotes from the book and used them at wrong times in the movies. The actors sucked. Jasper was weird. Alice was barely in the movie. Charlie was a donkey. Edward was always staring at Bella and did anyone notice Bella did not ONCE in the movie smile? I understand that Bella is very matured but come on, the girl did smile and laugh. She wasn't a robot she DID have emotions! The only three cast memebers they had correct would be Alice, Carlise and I'd say Emmett. Other than that horrible! Posted 11/30/2008 5:54 PMReply

But honestly All you people are acting like it was the worst movie ever. I expected more out of the movie, but honestly the book was so good that i dont think you can have that high of expectations for the movie. @ Anonymous: Just to let you know, before you continue making stupid comments, THEY'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE FANGS! It's described in the book. And, as a clear statement of it, in Eclipse.

Jacob: "Do you..kiss him?"
Bella: "yes" laughing
Jacob: "Don't you worry about his..fangs?"
Bella: hits Jacob "You know he doesn't have those!"

That's exactly what they said, just not written correctly due to actions.

I just hope they fix Jacob's hair in the next movie.

Putting it down was just awful, it made the actor look weird, the hair look fake, and it was against the character. In the book when he has his hair down it's a big sign that he's changed.

The movie was better than I thought, I really like the soundtrack. It just could of had more time put into it.

Although, I think they did a good job on James. Not really how I pictured him exactly, but I liked that image of him.

I loved the Twilight Saga but the movie was really disappointing. I was shocked at how there was np chemistry between Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart. Kirsten STewart can't act and she really didn't give about the film at all. As for Edward (Robert Pattinson is really hot) he was made to look really dull and stupid. I mean come on heacts wayy better in Harry Potter than what he did in Twilight. Emmett and Jasper looked wayy hotter than Edward. Jasper acted though as he was constipated throughout the film. Alice and Rosalie, and Carlisle acted the best and their characters were actually believable. Anyway I was really excited about the film only to have my hopes crushed. Harry Potter 6 is going to be so much better. Hopefully they will remake Twilight and have better actors and A BETTER DIRECTOR! THAT LADY HAS NO PROFESSION IN DIRECTING!!
