OTR’s contributors stirred up quite a bit of controversy this past week, especially with stories involving Greek life, China Nite and chorus girls gone wild. Here’s a look at some of the more memorable comments left by readers.
Squabbles broke out in Jersey over whether contributor Miss Darcy was racist for suggesting Asians study all the time.

“Media eithics [sic] would eat you alive in the real world,” an anonymous reader fumed. “You're lucky you can write whatever you want through blogging. Please don't become a journalist. You will wind up black listed in society.”

“This type of stereotyping is very ignorant,” another declared.

Eventually OTR's managing editor got involved and asked students to play nicely.  The post's author took the comments in stride.
“This post is a little saucier than what you're used to,” Darcy replied. “I'm not sure how this constitutes racism.”

* Michigan readers argued furiously over the suggestion that it was acceptable for football coach Rich Rodriguez to break tradition by giving the #1 jersey to freshman Defensive Back J.T Floyd.

“It’s amazing to me how people have not come to accept the fact that Rich Rodriguez only cares about one Michigan tradition – winning,” contributor AHor wrote. “If it helps win games, Rodriguez will take care of it.”

As fans debated the coach’s audacity, one Michigan devotee seemed less concerned with the concept of tradition.
“Just f***king win!” the impassioned reader shrieked. “Stop crying bitches! Beat Ohio State!”

* To the delight of thousands of undecided college voters, Tufts contributor The Peasant “separated the wheat from the chaff” to bring readers “the skinny” on the presidential candidates

“With every Tom, Dick, and Sally throwing in his or her two cents into the increasingly smog-filled blogosphere, it can be difficult to figure out what candidate is right for you,” he noted.

“Obama was just recently endorsed by the leader of Hamas,” one commenter mused. “Maybe the terrorists aren't bad after all?”

* The Astute Fem issued an apology after her article, 8 Great Blunders of the Greats, sent readers howling about inaccuracies and her lack of sensitivity.

“I want to slap you for calling the death of Christopher Wootton a ‘blunder’ of the Greeks,” J.C. wrote. “Congratulations. You've made 1st on my list of idiot contributors that should no longer be able to contribute do to incompetency.”

Other readers took a more polite approach.
“Please do some actual research and verify facts before choosing to editorialize and defame organizations,” Ryan wrote.

The Fem agreed to make changes.
“I will make corrections to the facts where it is necessary. It is very easy to trivialize a serious situation, especially when you are not directly involved. I apologize if I made any of you feel like this post was mitigating the seriousness of these events.”

* Finally, the PG photos of Rutger’s Chorus Girls Gone Wild (which garnered attention from Sports Illustrated) drew fierce defense from members of the music community.

“ShockWave is a very serious performing arts group on campus,” music director Sarah Chapin wrote to us in a lengthy email. “This blog does not capture what ShockWave really is and instead asserts a sexuality, which ranges from super conservative to pretty open, that is really just a tiny portion of who we are. I hope you can appreciate that we are not just 15 pairs of tits, but extremely talented, hardworking individuals who wish to be represented as such.”

Dear Sarah,
We certainly can appreciate the musical talents of your group. We’ll check your website if you’ll let us know which members of your group are more “open” with their sexuality.
Cheers!

@ Anonymous: Well, technically, you didn't. We can see your IP and if you read carefully, Steph did not list your two comments as being from two separate people.

So, in the immortal words of Gene Wilder: "You lose. Good day, sir."

Aw, thanks for featuring my posts :D I love how people with no senses of humor end up being the most entertaining of all. Though, I'm kind of sad that the Shockwave director couldn't appreciate the fact that the pictures made the girls look sexy and fun. Sometimes people who stick too hard to theoretical feminism can't see any kind of gendering without insisting that it objectifies women *eye roll*
