Since I'm making up the list, I'm making up the rules. I went back and looked at all the commercials from the last six years of Super Bowls, which you can so easily do, right here. Then, it got real simple and easy like. I just picked me one from each year, and ranked 'em as I saw fit.
Why 6, you ask? Well, because my number one was on six years ago, that's why.
And, unlike some other sites that list their top spots, you can actually watch these ads here. Why they think they're doing anyone a favor by just putting the cute little tag line and not the actual 30 second video is beyond my comprehension. Anyway, here we go.
Get at us in the comments section. What are your favorite ads from Super Bowls past?
6. 2005 Pepsi Goes P. Diddy
Cute, if even in a predictable way. But, anytime Tooly McToolerson can get a speaking spot in a commercial that likely will get him more viewers than his TV show (what's it at now, 5:30 AM?), you've got to like it.
5. 2004 Mastercard's Still Doing The Priceless Thing
Homer Simpson is funny. Nothing more needs to be said.
4. 2007 Bud Light Gives The Axe
The only reason I didn't have this one higher was because it seems like there's just too many beer commercials, and they all seem to be the same. But, this one did make me chuckle, and that's the point, isn't it?
3. 2006 FedEx Taking A Page (The Only Funny One, Apparently) Out of Geico's Book
Not nearly a "ha-ha" funny. Certainly not LOL funny. But, definitely very clever. That's got to count for something in advertising.
2. 2008 Tide-to-Go Talking Stain
I laughed hard when I first saw it, and I laugh again now. Well done Tide. Still haven't bought one of those things, though.
1. 2003 Reebok Terry Tate: Office Linebacker
If you're free, which I'd imagine you are if you're reading this, take some time to peruse the other Tate spots they created. There's one where Felcher & Sons drafts another O-Linebacker, and another where Tate has to go to sensitivity training. All very funny. Nothing beats wimpy guys (and girls) getting absolutely leveled for no real reason.
