Sometimes it seems like college students will never get a break on that bone-shatteringly horrendous blackhole for money, tuition. There’s always work study jobs, but at rates to the tune of $7 per hour, a student might as well be fishing coins out of fountains. Besides, students might as well capitalize on their last chance before adulthood to be slackers without major repercussions, so we at CollegeOTR have compiled a list of the Top 7 Dumb, Kooky, and Strange College Scholarships.
1) How the competition is judged exactly remains a mystery, but the the Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest pits high school seniors against each other for a shot at the $1,500 scholarship.
2) If you’re an unathletic girl so lazy you can’t even be bothered to light up a cigarette or grab a beer, then you could earn the Gertrude Deppen Scholarship. One who participates in “strenuous athletic contests” is not allowed to apply. Take that jock girls!
3) For those with prescient powers, the the Parapsychology Foundation offers a $3,000 Eileen J. Garrett Scholarship, but then, you knew that already.
4) Do you like candy? Are you a college student? Do you study science? Then you may be perfect for a scholarship from the American Association of Candy Technologists.
5) If your name is Zolp, you want to attend Loyala University, and you’re catholic, you can win the Zolp Scholarship. No big thing.
6) Calling all Trekkies: Take the one chance you’ll ever have to use the stuff that got you stuffed in lockers all through high school to your benefit. The Klingon Language Institute awards a Kor Memorial Scholarhip to a student who has proven fluency in the fictional language Klingon.
7) Maybe you’ve never aspired to be Tiger Woods, but you’re not so bad at carrying around gold clubs. If this sounds familiar, get on the Golf Caddy Scholarship offered by the Evan Scholars Foundation; it’s worth your full college tuition for up to 4 years.

I guess if you define "Slacker" as someone who has earned top marks in high school and unfortunately comes from a family that is not wealthy and has worked over 2 years caddying to earn money throughout high school than this does fit... Posted 09/16/2008 5:01 PMReply
