As summer dwindles, so does your chance for vacation. Did you spend the spring semester dreaming of a European getaway? Unfortunately money (well, a lack thereof) and time (also, a lack thereof) got in the way and here it is, almost August and your stuck in America.
Don't despair. You can still get a taste of Europe right in the good ol U.S. of A. Thanks in part to American's being big fat copycats, all of those exotic sites you wanted to check out are only a roadtrip away. So put away the passport and explore Europe, U.S.-style:
1. The Eiffel Tower, Paris, Texas
Not only did this city, pawn the European treasure's name, but they stole its most famous landmark as well. And yes that is a cowboy hat atop the tower. Oh, Texas.
2. The Leaning Tower of Niles, Niles, IL
At half the size of the original, this leaning tower is conveniently located only 15 miles from Chicago's O'Hare airport.
3. The Parthenon, Nashville, TN
Nothing screams ancient Greece quite like Nashville. This full size replica doubles as the city's art museum.
4. Washington Square Park's Arch, New York, NY
Although not an exact copy, the arch was modeled after the larger Arc de Triomphe in Paris. It recently underwent a renovation to give the landmark a little facelift.
5. Carhenge, Alliance, NE
Who needs the boring original made of stone when you can see this quirky copy. Paying tribute to Stonehenge, six local families built a memorial made out of cars painted gray.
