Truman Syndrome is First Jim Carrey-Related Syndrome Coined

A new psychological disorder is sweeping the nation, and it’s based on a Jim Carrey movie. No, sadly it’s not Ace Venturatitis where you can now talk to animals, it’s called Truman Syndrome, and it’s slightly more disturbing.

One man showed up at a federal building, asking for release from the reality show he was sure was being made of his life. Another was convinced his every move was secretly being filmed for a TV contest. A third believed everything — the news, his psychiatrists, the drugs they prescribed — was part of a phony, stage-set world with him as the involuntary star, like the 1998 movie "The Truman Show."

People are thinking their lives are inside some sort of reality TV bubble, just like Truman was in The Truman Show, where the entire world was based around his existence and his every move was filmed. This is kind of similar to “The Matrix Syndrome” back in 1999 when everyone thought that reality was all a computer program.

But researchers aren’t blaming The Truman Show for this phenomenon, they say it simply allows those who suffer from the condition to give it a name.

"I don't think that popular culture causes delusions," said Bell, who is affiliated with King's College London and the Universidad de Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia. "But I do think that it is only possible to fully understand delusions and psychosis in light of our wider culture."

Ooh I got another one, Liar Liarhhea, where you can only tell the truth!
