The holiday spirit is spreading throughout Alaska’s state government and with it has come the spreading of emails containing racist jokes.
Officials in Alaska are currently investigating the offensive statements that have been traveling around state government email accounts. The subject of one of the emails is “Night Befo Crizzmus” while others contain digs at the victory of Obama, saying “Another black family living in government housing!”
While the emails seem to have originated from non-state government officials, they have since been forwarded multiple times through the state government email system.
But of course Sarah Palin has to be dragged into this somehow. The AP reports:
[Administration Commissioner Annette] Kreitzer said she alerted the office of Gov. Sarah Palin — the failed Republican vice presidential candidate — about the e-mails.
Bill McAllister, Palin's spokesman, said in an e-mail that the matter concerned individual actions taken by a handful of state employees among thousands.
"My understanding is that the Department of Administration is following up on this with the individuals who took action to forward the offensive e-mails," he said. "This is, of course, a confidential personnel and disciplinary matter that has nothing to do with the governor's office."
The Rev. Alonzo Patterson, state chairman of the Alaska Black Leadership Conference, encouraged Palin to address the e-mails.
"They're doing that in a state setting," he said. "She should condemn it."
C’mon Palin, get your state in order.

Stumble It

She's the Governor. The state employees are HER employees. The state policy on use of state equipment and electronics for personal use is quite clear, and she delegates someone to make sure that happens. It's under her watch.
Why SHOULDN'T she be dragged into this?
If you want to hear about something she SHOULDN'T have been dragged into, it was her own injection of herself as possible victim in the case of arson at a church she occasionally attends in Wasilla (NOT "her church" as has been widely reported). Nevermind that there were actual people in the church who were more likely to have been potential victims, whom she never mentioned in her "apology". Posted 12/18/2008 10:46 PMReply
