Twilight Success To Surpass Harry Potter Mania?

Twilight Success To Surpass Harry Potter Mania?

I never thought it would happen, but it appears as if a movie has surpassed the obsession that was the Harry Potter franchise. Coming in at number 3, “Twilight” beat both “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” on Fandango’s list of Top 10 Advance Ticket-Sellers.

(TAs a fun side note, “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson was actually in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” playing hottie Cedric Diggory.)

After hundreds of Thursday midnight screenings of “Twilight” sold out, many movie theaters were convinced to add even more showtimes.

United Press International explains the mayhem:

"Twilight" currently represents more than 94 percent of all weekly ticket sales on the Internet ticket broker's Web site.

"It's our fastest ticket-seller since 'The Dark Knight,'" Rick Butler, chief operating officer of Fandango, said in a statement. "The impressive advance ticket sales are clearly the result of the growing Internet buzz from the novel's online fans. There are so many moviegoers staying up late to see the movie at midnight that 'Twilight' might single-handedly boost coffee sales on Friday morning."

Maybe I don’t understand because I’ve never read the novels, but I find it hard to believe “Twilight” can topple “Harry Potter” in popularity. At best, the film series will win over Potter-philes going through withdrawal and looking for a quick fix.
