U2 Comes to Fordham

U2 Comes to Fordham

Who wouldn’t want to come to a college that holds about 8,000 students? Yeah, we’re close to NYC, but we’re actually in the Bronx. Good Morning America decided that it’d be totally fitting if one of the biggest bands in the world came to one of the most underrated colleges in the country. It was serious process of planning for all of us—because we had to be drunk, we had to be close to the stage, and we had to get on TV. Here’s how it all went down:

Thursday March 5, 2009—10:30 pm: Went to sleep with a fridge full of energy drinks and a freezer full of Bacardi Limón.

Friday March 6, 2009—2:30 am: Woke up. Drank. Drank. Drank. Seriously—took six shots in under an hour.

4:00 am: Got in line for the show with only about 20 kids ahead of us. It was about 35 degrees and we were equipped with several layers of clothes and we each had a flask attached to our chests.

6:00 am: We finally get let onto the lawn. We were told not to run but god dammit, it’s U2 and I wanted to get as close as possible. We end up about fourth row a little bit left of center.

7:00 am: Good Morning America starts airing with Robin Roberts. She’s kind of cool. It’s kind of funny to watch older people pretend that they know how college kids feel. She was grooving around trying to act all jacked up. What she was missing was one thing—the influence of alcohol. The weatherman was there too, Sam Champion.

Man, that guy has a fake face and a half. From 7 to 8 we were constantly teased about U2 coming on. Anytime they needed some noise, they uttered two syllables—U, TWO.

8:00 am: Out from Fordham’s iconic building, Keating Hall, comes the Edge and Bono and those two other guys. After about nine and a half hours of preparation, it all was about to pay off.

9:30 am: The show ends. U2 owned Fordham. As much as I hated Bono before the show I had to tip my cap to the guy for knowing how to work a crowd. It’s crazy how crazy Bono is. And it’s crazy how the Edge’s facial expression never changes. Such focus. The new songs have that U2 sound and are great live. I love the Edge. I wish I was him. I wish I could relive this. Actually, I kind of just did.

Be jealous if you want.
