By now you’re probably used to sports stars and their ridiculous arrests, but seriously? Former University of Georgia football player Danny Ware was recently arrested in downtown Athens and charged with… pedestrian under the influence.
Why is that even a thing?
The 23-year-old used to play running back for the Bulldogs from 2004-2006 and then joined the New York Giants just a few months before the team played in the Super Bowl. Good fortune was on Ware’s side.
That is until Sunday when he and a friend, Jennifer Henderson, were standing on a corner and spotted by a police officer. The Red and Black explains what happened next:
Henderson claimed to be flagging a cab, but the officer noted the couple had their backs to the flow of traffic.
The officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from both people. Ware took a portable breath alcohol test and blew .152, nearly twice the legal limit. Henderson refused to take a breath alcohol test.
Both were arrested and transported to the Athens-Clarke County Jail. He was released four hours later after posting a $500 bond.
So they were drunk… but just standing there… not doing anything else wrong. Now I guess that could be public intoxication, but it’s not exactly like they were causing a scene. And thank God they weren’t in a car or driving under the influence.
Ware must be so pissed. If you’re going to get arrested, it should at least be for something cool, something that will earn you a little street cred, something, anything, other than pedestrian under the influence. Better luck next time, Danny boy.
