Protecting the Technologically Tethered

Protecting the Technologically Tethered
It’s a plan designed to save lives, but I just can’t get behind it.

Legislation is being considered that would make schools have to send out warning in 30 minutes or less in the event of a life-threatening emergency, be it an act of god, natural disaster or a nutcase with an automatic rifle.

It seems like a great idea, and yet, I am irked.

Am I the only guy who doesn’t regularly check my emails and text messages? Am I the only person who doesn’t hyperventilate if my cell phone goes dead and I miss a couple of calls?

Hell, sometimes people text message or call and I simply can’t be bothered to deal with them. I have a life, ya know?

If this is the universities only plan for warning, people like me won’t get the message. Then I’d wander to class, wonder why no one was around, and promptly get shot.

This plan may save lives, but it won’t save mine.
