Yesterday we found out that Patriots cheerleader Caitlin Davis had been kicked off the squad after drawing male genitalia and swastikas on a friend then stupidly getting caught doing so because of a leaked Facebook photo. Now, Buck Burnette has been kicked off the University of Texas football team for a racist Facebook status message.
According to the American-Statesman:
Backup center Buck Burnette was kicked off the Longhorns Wednesday because of comments he made on Facebook, a person close to the team has confirmed.
According to those who saw the Facebook page, Burnette updated his status shortly after Barack Obama was elected president Tuesday night and wrote that hunters should get their guns. One of the people who claimed to have seen Burnette’s original post said it also included a racial slur. Others saw what Burnette wrote and posted comments on other sites, encouraging their friends to shut down his page.
Burnette’s page has since been deleted from Facebook…
His Facebook page listed his political views as “very conservative.”
The person close to the team said that coach Mack Brown learned of what happened Wednesday and made the decision to release Burnette for what he called a violation of team rules.
Wimberley’s Weldon Nelms coached Burnette in high school. He said: “It’s just one of those things where I think he was caught up in the moment. It probably was him and a couple of his buddies and they thought it was funny.
“I know the kid, and I believe in my gut that he’s not prejudice, he’s not a bigot or a racist.”
Yeah, Nelmsy, that makes loads of sense. It’s not like referring to someone by using a racial slur and talking about hunting them like wild animals is prejudiced or anything! Buck Burnette sure sounds like a big old diversity monger!
What is with these people? Do they not understand that Facebook is a public forum? Do they not realize that people will be offended by things like swastikas or statements about shooting the president-elect? If they’re gonna be bigots, it might be best not to broadcast it as though it’s news that they’ve saved an entire third world country’s worth of orphans from starvation-- at least if they want to stay on their teams.
Ultimately though, as a public educational institution, the University of Texas should respect Burnette's First Amendment right to express his racist prick self.

I live in Texas and I'm so happy that Obama is our next president. Posted 11/06/2008 8:18 PMReply
Some people forget that playing football is a privilege and not a right. Good for Texas for kicking this clown off the team. Posted 11/06/2008 9:45 PMReply
Texas is a carcker state, unless it's Vince Young winning a National Championship for y'all. Posted 11/06/2008 9:47 PMReply
Then I'd like to see him in an Al Qaeda video in an orange jumpsuit, and about five guys with a sharp knife and watch Buck The **** squeal like a pig. That would be so nice!! Posted 11/06/2008 10:00 PMReply
You know that Buck screwed up and will hopefully grow and mature from this. Posted 11/06/2008 10:23 PMReply
Unfortunately, you are a rarity in Texas, that racist hellhole. Posted 11/06/2008 10:28 PMReply
im a canadian and i hate to see the mightiest nation on earth right now fighting over such a stupid topic. if i was an american i would give my utmost support to the new president. just because hes a little darker than us he can change your country and i believe he will. i hope buck learns from his mistake and is an example to all you!!

He is just your average small town guy who made the wrong choice... Posted 11/06/2008 11:15 PMReply
Apparently, "he loves God". Well, God doesn't love racist pieces of sh*t like him. I hope someone needs to make an example of him - a little vengeance will do him good!!
And to his homecoming date, STFU, we don't care about your little racist Texas p*sshole that you live in.
I suggest all the scum in Texas get a copy of Senator McCain's concession speech - pure class, and a perfect lesson for you crackers. Posted 11/07/2008 08:52 AMReply
{{{{{He made a horrible mistake but one mistake is all it takes. I truly feel sorry for him because it maybe said something that we all feel or felt but could not express. His comments were more than likley taken out of context because we are too sensitive in our society.}}}}}
How do you take out of context something that is written in black & white ? It wasn't anything he said, but what he wrote on his Facebook page.
He made some horribly racist comments and he is paying the price for his lack of judgement. It is not a RIGHT to play football, but a priviledge and he lost that priviledge.
I don't seriously see how he could play for another school or in the NFL, Arena League or the CFL after making these comments, since he will have numerous black team mates. I guess his football career is over. I hope he was taking advantage of his educational opportunities, since it looks like he's gonna need that degree. Posted 11/07/2008 09:17 AMReply
And yes that comment was stupid, ESP to put in his facebook status. If he wasn't a racist, then he would've never posted that being afraid to offend his Black friends. PLUS OBAMA IS BLACK AND WHITE!!!! Its time to grow up America. Times are changing!!! Posted 11/07/2008 09:37 AMReply
He has paid the price. "a little vengeance will do him good!!" What a dumb ass statement by a true sh*t for brains.
McCain's concession speech was pure class, I guess you should try to have a little class when you have your ass kicked like he did. Posted 11/07/2008 09:38 AMReply

If Buck...hence the 1st name. I lived in Austin, Texas my entire life. I know several "Buck's" I am related to a Buck. I shouldn't act to childish on this, but every "Buck" I know....hunts (Which I have ) has $$$$ and has that same racist mentality. Irony... I know.
Bottom line: He knew this would cause a conflict in the locker room. With his pads off, he would not have left that locker room without a severe limp and left on the door steps of Brackenridge Hospital.
The End...
YEs, my Obama is 1/2 black & 1/2 white like I am. Yes, I have been threatened by both races my entire life. Not just white folks, either. It hurts and will never ever go away completely. Obama is the president...move on, please! Posted 11/07/2008 11:14 AMReply
DO YOU ALL REALLY...in the frontal lobe of your brain...believe in these mythologies? Zues was a God. Praise him. Revelations...your "Jesus" had olive/copper skin (depending on which version of this silly text you have) with wool...yes...wool hair. No blue eyes, no straight "hippy" like hair.
Come on! Don't be suckered in! By the Grace of God $$$. $$$ This is all it is about $$$. Ask the Catholics and The still powerful Roman Empire.
Theology 101! No it is a form of brainwashing and a great fear tactic, too.

For those that think "he's going to take our guns away", please wake the **** up and realize a few things about the way our government works:
Presidents don't make the laws, congress does.
Any law that TRIED to do so would be struck down by the Supreme Court.
If the government tried to do so--they know where less than 25% of guns are because they weren't required to be registered in the past--people would not give them up without a revolution.
I know too many Bucks. Hopefully, they'll all burn up from the hate that simmers inside them. Posted 11/07/2008 11:38 AMReply
Do people really think that a President can just come in and overturn your Constitutional Rights? Oh, sorry, you mean like that guy from Texas that's in office right now, who did it for his imaginary War On Terror?? Posted 11/07/2008 12:02 PMReply
And to whoever mentioned 95% percent of black people voting for Obama, you do realize that of the 65 million cast for Obama, only 17 million were of the black population, right? Posted 11/07/2008 12:08 PMReply
I wish everyone could have been outside the White House on election night. Thousands of all ages and color celebrating our new president. Time to move the page, a new era of governance is here! Posted 11/07/2008 12:14 PMReply
I actually know him personally. I babysat him and his sisters when I was in high school, his dad helped build my parents house, I went to church with his family, and we were both church youth leaders together.
My heart literally dropped to my stomach when my mom emailed me to let me know about this. Buck continues to be a Christian leader in our old church community and at UT. I think he's still young (even though I can't pick him up like I used to) and he wasn't thinking clearly about what could happen.

Plus, you have other players that are arrested for DWI, having guns and drugs etc etc and they are given second chances. These are students and to have this reaction is wrong on its face. Posted 11/07/2008 3:57 PMReply
Why is it that blacks can call themselves nigga but a white guy can't?
Give me a break. I'm a cracker and i don't get offended when I am called one. Also, do you think that you will be any less a nigga since Obama is in the White House? NOT. Posted 11/07/2008 4:20 PMReply
You guys are using the word "racist" so loosely. To be a racist is to have the POWER to actively suppress another group. That was possble decades ago in this country when it was LEGAL, not now. Having a prejudice against a certain group of people or person or beliefs can lead to racism but without the POWER, it aint SHIT. Posted 11/07/2008 6:48 PMReply
All major news outlets reported today that gun sales after the election are 'through the roof'. Gun owners are afraid Obama and the Dem Congress will attempt to make it harder to purchase guns, so they are buying them now while they still can. Posted 11/08/2008 9:25 PMReply

That is in NO way the same kinda deal that the DUI's/etc are. Very racist comments such as Buck's are something that hurts team unity and I'm sure that's where Mack was coming from. Why would he even want to be on a team that's 75% people he apparently has predjudice against?
I think this election has brought out the true colors of a lot of people, that it has brought bigots out of the closet. If he didn't mean it, then that's an unfortunate thing, but there's no way people should be getting away with those kind of comments in this day and age.
P.S. I voted McCain so no liberal bias here. Posted 11/10/2008 8:22 PMReply
I am offended when anyone who shows predjudice/racism/bigotry also claims to be a Christian. I've seen a lot of that in this election (and I'm not talking about opinionated remarks about policy. Those are fine). Posted 11/10/2008 8:32 PMReply
Why cant people just stop being so rude and ignorant ! !
This has been goingg on for how long now ? ?
&&Yet everyone on here is being a bigger dumbass then the next . . . Racism is never the answer people.
Black people say white people are all racist . . . White people think black people are all " thugs or gangsters ".
Its the same shit with you people all the damn time . . .
God may have been black, or may have been white, Or asian or mexican or WHATEVER ! nobody truly knows. But what we do know is that he would never want to see the people he created to grow up and be so full of shit and disrespect for other people he has created.
This poor Buck dude may have or may have not been racist i dont know.
But what i do know is that im only 15 years old but im way more classy than any of you people to sit here and be so cruel. Posted 11/13/2008 6:56 PMReply
Buck was getting a free ride scholarship from UT, and had a spot on one of the biggest college football programs in the country. If he couldn't see that he had a responsibility to act upstanding, then unfortunately he deserved to lose his spot.
I live in Wimberley. It's a great town, but it is nearly all white with a few hispanics and hardly any black people. My kids have told me about some of the remarks they have heard from people who would probably tell you, like Buck, that they are good Christians and not racist. But what they don't understand is that snickering at remarks like that and passing them on is racist behavior. I hope Buck and kids like him examine themselves a little more closely. It's one thing to say you are not racist because you are not overtly discriminatory to black people. It's another thing to claim you are not racist and pass on remarks like the one Buck did. He needs to really do some soul searching, and understand why he would find that remark funny in the first place.
It's pretty ironic, because the UT players all met Obama when he was at UT for the debate with Hillary Clinton, and Buck met him too. I hear that the secret service reminded him of that, and passed on Obama's disappointment. I hope that stays with him and makes him think. Posted 11/14/2008 2:05 PMReply
"leave this poor boy alone"? He's 20 years old, stands 6'3" and weighs 330. He's a man, NOT a "boy". Posted 11/21/2008 11:55 PMReply

I'm sorry, but as a college student myself--and one who is younger than him, that just sounds like one more excuse to be used by some spoiled rat [yes, rat]. He is in college, for crying out loud. That means he ought to have the good sense not to act in such a ridiculous, childish manner.
If you want to speak out against the new president elect, that's fine. You're not obligated to like him, thought it'd be nice if you'd work with him, given the chance.
However, acting like a child when you are, in effect, a public figure--one who kids probably look up to, knowing the size of Wimberley--then damnit all, you'd best lose the privilege of playing football for UT if you're that immature. Posted 11/23/2008 07:56 AMReply
Buck didn't live up to that requirement and he was kicked off the team. So, spare us the bu11sh!t hypothetical comparisons of if it were black athletes they would not have been jettisoned from the team.
Buck spewed vitriol. Now, he's paying the price!
