University of Texas Study Reveals Obese Woman May Not Find Food As Delicious

A new study out of the University of Texas, Austin, found surprising results: woman who find food less rewarding are the ones most likely to become obese.

So, it’s not necessarily a love of cheeseburgers and donuts that is to blame for the obesity. In fact, it’s probably a lack of love at the root of the problem. The study found that some obese women have a chemical imbalance in their brain which leads to a lesser satisfaction with food. The less the satisfaction, the more they eat to compensate.

Scientists found the solution in a milkshake:

The study, published today in the journal Science, looked at the way the brains of 43 young women responded to a chocolate milkshake.

They were interested in the flow of dopamine – the 'reward' chemical messenger which floods the brain during pleasurable activities such as eating and drinking.

Women whose brains responded the least to drinking the milkshake – and who got less pleasure from the treat – were most likely to gain weight, they found.

Damn you un-tasty milkshake and your fattening ways. If only more people found you as delicious as you were meant to be. Then the world’s weight problems would be solved.
