College kids love drinking games. It’s almost too boring to sit in a room with a group of friends and just drink. There usually needs to be an impetus—a force compelling us to drink. Those with the luxury of a regulation-sized table can play beer pong, flip cup, baseball or any other variation of pong. Those with a tiny coffee table or just a floor have to resort to other games. The popular, widespread ones are ****, F*ck the Dealer, and Kings. Sure, there are other ones but even with a rotation of about six card games you can easily get bored. So here’s another game to add to the list—Uno.
It’s played just like the regular, children’s version except with drinking penalties added into the mix. Each player starts with 7 cards and the point of the game is to get rid of all your cards. Each card has a color and a number or signal. The only way you can put down a card is if you have a matching color or matching number/signal. Last rule of Uno—if you don’t yell out “Uno!” when you have one card left, and another player calls you out on it, you have to draw four cards. That’s Uno, the kid way. Now, let’s move on to Uno, the college way.
The Drinking Rules
1. Change of Color, Drink
Let’s say I put down a red two then you put down a blue two. Whenever the color changes, all players must drink.
2. Player Skipped or Reversed, Drink
There is a special card that allows you to skip the next player. There is also a card that reverses the order. If you are the player that loses a turn due to being skipped or due to the order reversing, you must drink.

3. +2, Drink Two
Another special card is the +2 card that forces the next player to draw two cards. If you’re drawing two, you’re drinking two. There is also a special Wild card that forces the next player to draw four cards instead of two. Once again, if you’re drawing four, you’re drinking four.

4. Wild Categories
We’re mixing in a little bit of Kings here. If you throw down a Wild, you get to change the color and also start a category. This means that the loser of the category will end up taking two drinks.
5. Make a Rule
When someone finally wins the round of Uno, they then make a rule for the next game. I like No Pointing and No Names, but nothing tops the best rule ever made—whenever someone swears they must call a person they have hooked up with and tell them why they are calling. Any chance to embarrass a friend must be taken advantage of.
So that’s the game. If you don’t like Uno, stick to Kings. If, like me, you were into Uno like a hobo is into crack, then you’ll love this game. It combines two great things—childhood and drinking. So have fun and in the words of Ghandi, “Time isn’t wasted when you’re getting wasted.”
