Poor Utah, no one cares about their football team because they’re in the Mountain West conference. Did you know that Utah went 13-0 this year? No, you probably didn’t, because no one cares. Harris Poll voters certainly didn’t know or care.
That must explain how the team with a perfect record, four victories over AP top-25 teams and a conference championship can be ranked sixth in the BCS standings.
As Deadspin.com reports, several voters had never even watched a Utes game before they crushed Alabama in the Sugar Bowl. Check out these real, live quotes from voters who help determine the all-important BCS rankings:
“I did not see them play [in the regular season].”
“I didn’t see any live games. I just [saw] highlights.”
“I don’t recall if I saw them play specifically during the regular season. I don’t remember a specific game.”
And that’s how two one-loss teams make it into the BCS championship, and Utah plays in the Sugar Bowl.
Isn’t the college football system grand?
Check out the gallery above, it’s probably the most you’ve seen of Utah in all your football-watching years.
