The Orange Bowl this year pitted Virginia Tech against Cincinnati. And in a game that the New York Times has called "lackluster," VT came out on top.
No. 21 Virginia Tech outlasted the No. 12 Bearcats, 20-7, on Thursday night in a forgettable Orange Bowl. The victory gave the Hokies their fifth consecutive season of 10 or more victories, joining only Texas and Southern California as teams with that distinction.
“I know that the A.C.C. takes a beating at times,” said Bud Foster, the Hokies’ defensive coordinator. “But I think it’s really top to bottom the most competitive league in the country.”
In a game lacking star power, Virginia Tech tailback Darren Evans led the Hokies with 153 yards and a touchdown.
Congratulations to the winners of the "lackluster" Orange Bowl. And to Cincinnati, well, you're just a little more lackluster than VT.
