Wesleyan's Political Activism Leading Up To Tonight's Election

Streams of Wesleyan students have begun to flock to the Senior Center near Broad Street books to cast their ballots for the 2008 election. Wesleyan students have steadily and passionately rallied to encourage voter registration and turnout throughout the year. From phone banking to canvassing, Wesleyan students have taken “responsibility for the work of politics themselves. This is good for their education - and for our future,” in the words of Wesleyan President Michael Roth from his blog today encouraging students to vote.

Students involved in WesVotes, Wesleyan’s newest student- run voter registration group, assigned various dorms Hall Captains who provided registration forms, absentee ballots and general voting help.

The WesDems (Wesleyan Democrats) have actively registered voters, phone banked and canvassed for Barack Obama and former Wesleyan student Matt Lesser who is running for democratic state representative.

Students for Barack Obama journeyed to Keane, New Hampshire and Milford, Pennsylvania in order to canvass for an Obama presidency. The group also held phone banking events throughout the school year.

CollegeOTR commends Wesleyan student’s activism. Lets hope tonight’s results provided the change we’ve been working so hard for!
