There’s been a lot of brouhaha surrounding colleges in the news this week.
For one thing, two female students at Yale Law School are suing the people who wrote anonymous, defamatory comments about them on the Internet that were traced back to the original writers.
In the world of athletics, an ex-University of Toledo basketball player has been accused of point shaving. Along with the 2006 graduate, other participants were allegedly on the conspiracy to fix games.
And in the political arena, an Obama town-hall style meeting at Baldwin-Wallace College was marred by a freelance photographer who heckled the presumptive Democratic nominee.
But, all these incidents pale in comparison to the biggest college-related commotion of the week, nay year. A rising freshman at American University is being investigated for plotting to assassinate the president. Collin McKenzie-Gude was a good kid who had never been in trouble before says his defense attorney. Yet, somehow that doesn’t overshadow the fact that the 18-year-old had 50 pounds of chemicals, assault-style weapons, armor-piercing bullets, fake IDs identifying him as a member of the CIA and a federal contractor, a document describing how to kill someone 200 meters away, and a map of Camp David with the presidential motorcade route in his home. Whoa.
So buck up, after this disturbing news, the week can only get better from here.
