Fan-made videos featuring Hollywood-ripped film scores and video game characters are oftentimes terrible, but this one is shockingly well done. In fact, I would go as far saying that it’s the best fan flick ever made—at least, from the hundreds that I have had the unfortunate pleasure of viewing over the years.
Apparently, when you take two of the biggest gaming franchises to date, Mario and Halo, and combine it with Lord of the Rings, you get pure, unbridled awesome for roughly nine minutes. This mock war between the denizens of the Mushroom Kingdom, who are championing the 2D era of gaming, and the ones of the Halo ‘verse, the harbingers of the modern 3D era, is so well choreographed and scripted that I had to comb the YouTube video information to make sure that it wasn’t officially sanctioned in some way.
Of course, there’s no way it would be, because Microsoft and Nintendo don’t play well together. But it definitely speaks to the quality of the end product of this labor of love.
To be fair, the story, if you can call it that, is laughable. Laughable to the same degree that Freddy Vs. Jason was back when it came out. However, it kinda has to be given the premise; otherwise, there’s no way these two gaming juggernauts would ever meet, let alone come to blows.
