You know how in a group of girls, there's always one who's not as smart or good looking but tends to talk a lot as if that made up for it? That is what Fremont is to the East Bay.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the East Bay, it is the general region that contains UC Berkeley, the world's greatest university...in the UC system. Oakland and Richmond are also East Bay cities, and while crime is around every corner, it's still tough to say you're from there.

Fremont, however, is the city you drive past and thank god you don't live there. Yet by 2012, the Oakland Athletics, currently leading the AL West, will be moving there. Further, Fremont plans to open its own location for Berkeley Bowl, the independent supermarket that makes Safeway look like a Qwik-E-Mart.

But what are they going to call it? Fremont Bowl sounds almost as bad as the Fremont A's. Developers have said that if Berkeley Bowl's owners object to the extension, they will simply build a copycat supermarket.

I give it four years before they erect a UC Fremont and steal our professors. Yeah? Well you can have A.J. Gregor.
