An Industry of Death - A Free Exhibit in the Square

Starting at the beginning of August and running until September 7, members of The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) have been offering those strolling through Harvard Square the opportunity to check out a free exhibit.

The exhibit is called Psychiatry: An Industry of Death and consists of a series of movie clips describing the psychiatry's 200-year history and painfully attempting to persuade all visitors that its creation has a grave impact on society today.

According to CCHR, psychiatrists from very early on have believed that chaining, flogging, starving, and torturing patients into submission was the key to curing mental illness.  And apparently, nothing has changed.  Psych patients are still being subjected to brutal treatments including electroshock therapy, psychosurgery, and debilitating drugs.

Granted it seems that in today's society just about any ailment is said to be cured by a prescription.  If a child has a difficult time focusing on a teacher's lesson he's automatically labeled as an ADD case.   Some individuals suffer from extreme mood swings and are quick to pass the blame and diagnose it as bipolar disorder.  CCHR states that these drugs are referred to as "wonder drugs" and are so widely prescribed that more than 150 million people are taking antidepressants.

The video clips feature a deep spoken male who dramatically states astonishing facts and figures that make it seem as though the United States is pouring "$69 billion" into an industry that "monopolizes international mental health".

Upon finishing a tour of an exhibit, a lady remarked "It's all brainwashing, that's what they're doing".  And to be honest, the set up appears as such.  Guests leave with a DVD of all the video clips and a pamphlet including the key points.

Since the exhibit first opened, numerous guests have been in to check out at least the introductory video.  It a worthwhile video to watch and then you can see for yourself what you think of their theory.
