Auburn University's New Student Center Opens

Today was the grand opening of Auburn’s student center. The ceremony lasted from 10:30-12:15, but it seemed like it lasted ALL day long.

The event had free food, former Dean of Auburn and Iconic Legend James Foy, Dean of Students, Johnny Green, former Auburn football coach man Pat Dye, and of course, Aubie.

And after all of this, they still didn’t name the place after Dean Foy, only the information desk, which has been in “O” magazine and on the Today Show.

The center has been open since August, but in connection with the grand opening I’ll give a brief wrap-up of the center:

Basically, the building is really big and there are rooms that literally serve no purpose. Maybe the university has big plans to make some of the rooms into spas for the Trustees conference rooms for important meetings.

And there is basically NO cell phone service up in that joint, especially on the first floor. The furniture is pretty nice, although I think it all came from Big Lots.

The only gripe I really have are the food prices. Let’s just say buying food makes me appreciate paying for gas. In fact, it’s less expensive for me to fill my P.O.S. car than to get the Blue Plate at The Chef’s Table.

We also have some place called Au Bon Pain, which I’m still not sure how to pronounce so my friends and I just call it T-Pain’s. They have a weird ordering process where you circle on paper what you want and when the food is ready they call your name. I always write down a fake name like Jack Meoff or Beyonce.

Around the corner from T-Pain’s is an airport type shop where you can literally buy anything you want. I’m not kidding! You can get pop tarts and sushi and Tide to Go. Just last Wednesday I bought a Western Blot HIV test. J/K.

All in all, it’s a pretty cool place, much better than the old student union.
