Some teams strive to be the very best; others, the absolute worst.

In the race to bottom of the Ivy League men’s soccer rankings, the Columbia Lions blew past the Princeton Tigers this past weekend by losing their second straight game of the season, bringing their already pitiful record to 3-8-1 overall and 1-2-0 for the Ivy League.

Admittedly, Princeton isn’t much better than the Lions. They’re also 3-8-1 in the overall standings, but they’re only 1-1-1 in the league, which safely puts them one loss away from the bottom of the barrel next to Columbia.

Still, it definitely says something about the Lions when they not only lose to the second worst team in the league but also get shut out (READ: spanked) by them.

The Columbia Spectator reports:

The Tigers’ offense was relentless and pummeled Columbia’s defense with 10 shots on goal. The first goal came off the foot of senior midfielder Jason Adams at 55:40, putting the Tigers up, 1-0. Adams was wide open as several players clambered for the ball, which then found its way to him and made for an easy goal.

Eleven minutes later at 64:05, sophomore defenseman Josh Walburn opened the match up 2-0 in favor of Princeton with an quick lined shot past goalie Alex Aurrichio.

[…] Moreover, the Light Blue continued its bad habit of racking up fouls. The team tallied 19 fouls while its competitor only recorded eight. Princeton also outnumbered the Lions in corner kicks, eight to four.

Ah, Columbia – leading the league in fouls and losses. Quite the accomplishment, Light Blue!

When it rains, it pours. And right now, there’s a frickin’ tropical storm hanging over the Lions.
