Remember that episode of Seinfeld where they discovered a great place that had really low fat ice cream that ended up being a sham? Well, the D’Lites Emporium in Gainesville is attempting to win back its customer base after a similar and much publicized food misrepresentation complaint, which was filed by a local TCBY owner.
Apparently, they had been mislabeling “low fat ice cream” as “ice milk.” I can’t figure out why they would ever have business to begin with calling a product “ice milk.” That sounds gross. Though to be fair, if you’ve ever had D’Lites ice cream, you know that calling it ice cream at all is a bit of a stretch.
The investigation also found that a serving of their low fat ice cream has 50 calories, not 40 as the vendor had previously claimed. In their defense, the owners have stated that the difference is due to content changes in the low-fat dairy the store uses.
Though ten calories doesn’t sound like a lot to normal people, to the people who frequent D’Lites and who make themselves think it tastes like regular ice cream, this is quite the shock, hence the drastic drop in sales.
So to the disenfranchised masses, I propose a revolutionary solution. If you’re really that concerned about your figure, lay off the ice cream altogether. But wait, there’s another option: Ben and Jerry’s: 3,000 calories per serving and worth every single one. Because really, if you’re going to cave anyway, you might as well go all the way.
